Using QR codes for Your Horse Program
Do you use QR codes in your program?
Most everyone has a smartphone these days, and with the rise in QR code menus at restaurants, they are increasingly more common and comfortable for customers to use. Below we will address some simple ways to start using them to support your program.
Advertising
Whether you post flyers on local info boards, use digital flyers on social media, or put print ads in industry magazines you can easily add a QR code to convey important information to potential clients without the physical limitations of your graphic designs.
Here you can see what I mean. This quarter page flyer is posted in our local coffee shop, tack and feed stores, and community board. By using a QR code I can direct people to learn more at my website and focus my actual flyer on the high hitting information that would pique a potential clients interest and cause them to take action based on what they see.
Could you easily direct people to register for your next clinic, for example, simply by including a QR code that links to a registration site? It saves them from having to open and type in your information, website link, etc. Easily reduce conversion steps and risk of error from manual entry.
Accepting Payments
While the equine industry is still heavily influenced by cash and check payments, it is becoming increasingly popular for clients to not have or carry either of these items regularly, as they likely aren’t in the industry day in and day out like so many of us are. I don’t know about you, but I don’t carry around a Square, Stripe, or other credit card reader either (and frankly I would prefer not to pay the fees anyway). By setting up QR codes with each, I am able to offer Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp as prospective payment options to clients. Some of these apps do charge fees for processing; make sure you factor this into the fees you are charging so that you can have them covered. To date, I have not had an occasion yet where someone without cash or checks also hasn’t had at least one of these apps. All of them have QR codes associated with the account set up, eliminating the risk of error when putting in your info and subsequent follow-up trying to get it fixed / get paid.
While it takes some time to set up each one, it makes things so much easier in the long run. Not only can they pay in the moment, you can look at the history to easily see when someone last paid you and reconcile if they owe you payments or not.
PRO TIP: Save screenshots of each of your QR codes on your phone so you can easily open and share them with clients without having to open the app and navigate to the right spot each time they ask you for it.
Hugs and Happy Riding,
Kristin
